The Team at Southern REAP are pleased to have been part of a local steering committee comprising of members from local business, health and service groups to establish a Community Support Worker for the Central Southland area.
The need for the position was highlighted last year following an influx of immigrant farm workers during the dairy boom, which overwhelmed district nurses with requests for information on basic services available in Central Southland. A public meeting was arranged by Southern REAP and the process gained momentum from there.
Louise Faithful started her new and exciting role on August 3rd and is working hard establishing herself in the community including learning about all the services available and bringing herself up to speed with the diversity of the position. Based up at the Winton Health and Maternity Centre in Gow Street, the role is essentially a referral service putting people in need in touch with local organisations.
Funding support has generously been made available by the Winton Hospital Charitable Trust. The committee is hoping to attract additional funding from other sources in the future to ensure the security of this position.
