Discovery Through Art

Art activities provide an opportunity for children to express their thoughts and feelings. The adult's role is a supporting one, allowing children the freedom to explore the use of ideas and materials.
Here are a few tips when working alongside children in creative activities:

  • Let children choose what they want to make.
  • Try to encourage children to do things themselves (don't help children too much)
  • Be patient with children – they need time to create.
  • It's not the end result; it is the process that the child is going through.
  • If you make it for your child, the only thing they learn is that you can make it better than they can.
  • Provide a variety of materials i.e. paper, cardboard, glue, sellotape, pens, crayons, paint, natural materials and empty cardboard boxes.
