Truancy Services

Our Central/Western District and Gore District Truancy Services provide:


  • Help to the schools with checks and follow–ups on enrolments and attendance.
  • Liaison with home and school on truancy issues
  • Advice on enrolling non–enrolled students
  • Home visits and ongoing liaison with students
  • Liaison with families and community organizations regarding truancy issues
  • Assistance to the school to identify any underlying issues that may cause truancy e.g. bullying

Our Truancy Officers liase with schools and their families and community groups to encourage the best possible student attendance. Programme accessibility and availability ensures quick and effective results.

Truancy services work closely with other agencies to help solve truancy issues. When this becomes necessary advance notification is given. All information is strictly confidential. These Agencies could include:

  • Police Youth Aid Section
  • Child Youth and Family service
  • Work and Income NZ
  • Strengthening Families
  • Alternative Education
  • The Ministry of Education
