Alternative Education

The Alternative Education team provides a learning environment for students aged between 13 and 16, who have been alienated from mainstream schools.  Southern REAP offers Alternative Education at our Winton Centre.

Our Schools

The Alternative Education Centre has been allocated 11 ākonga placements.  Schools that make up our consortium are Central Southland College, Northern Southland College, Aparima College, Fiordland College, and Waiau Area School. Central Southland College is our Managing School and ensures our programme meets the needs of ākonga.

Education Pathway

All Alt Ed ākonga/students are registered with Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu. Ākonga/Students can choose four subjects or can enrol into a course that offers an NCEA pathway or National Certificate. Our programme is also supported by the Education Perfect platform, which promotes positive learning outcomes across all student ability levels.

EOTC

Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) is an integral part of our Alt Ed programme.  Every experience provides the opportunity for ākonga/students to do and learn new things, connecting with new learning and their environment.

Camps

A variety of activities are planned for our camps: snow sports, bike trails, or a choice of one of the five Great Walks. Planning and preparation are spread out over two terms.
